Crab Creek

A Crab Creek Hog

This year marks the tenth season of our lease on this fantastic spring creek in eastern Washington. We have exclusive use of almost five miles of this water. It is located approximately 45 minutes west of Spokane and 90 minutes west of Coeur d’ Alene. Crab Creek is located on a working cattle ranch that is over 4,000 acres. We guide it from mid-February through late June and again in the fall. It is a mixed bag of native Red Band Rainbows, Triploid Rainbows, and a few very large wild Brown trout. We maintain an old fashioned camp with traditional wall tents and wood stoves on site for our spring season overnight guests. Lodging rates are very reasonable with first class meals and great fishing for trout that average over seventeen inches. Almost every day we hook fish well over the twenty- inch mark.

We primarily fish nymphs and streamers, but the fall can provide some good dry fly fishing. Normally we limit the creek to four anglers and two guides per day but on occasion we can guide larger groups.
The privacy and limited fishing pressure, which this spring creek provides, gives the visiting angler the experience that our grandfathers had. The arid, scabrock landscape is full of rugged beauty and while brief, the spring wildflower show of 100 plus species is spectacular. Wildlife ranges from birds of prey to abundant coyotes and deer.

This is our premier fishery and is what Double Spey Outfitters is built around.

Double Spey Outfitter's section of Crab Creek had excellent fish survival last summer and this coming spring promises to be our best ever. Catch and release has been in effect for 10 years now and it continues to pay off in more and larger fish. This is our premier fishery and it is what Double Spey Outfitters is built around. The benefits associated with Crab Creek result in a very desirable destination. So, if you are limited to weekend fishing contact us well ahead of your desired trip. With minimal wading involved, and a very user friendly fishery, Crab Creek is a great choice for our elderly guests as well. This is one trip that you do not want to forget your camera as trout up to eight pounds are not uncommon. For those interested in history, there are multiple sites showing vivid evidence of Native American usage.

Be sure to view our fishing and nature photo galleries which will give you a great feel for what Crab Creek has to offer the visiting angler. While slightly more expensive than our public land trips, we rarely have a client who does not consider Crab Creek a bargain at the end of the day. Our guides are knowledgeable, enthusiastic and pride themselves in being able to provide the very best in a high quality, intimate fishing experience for our guests.
